Each year it is
becoming increasingly rewarding to the trainers at Pine Shadows - Morgan,
Sophie, We have the Glenn
family introducing Stella and Alex to handling their dog Lacey, Nate Gervenak
with his black lab pup Storm and Chris Solseth and his boys working with
their golden, Bailey, and Rob Schulke works Tess and sometimes Windsor. I am
missing some of the names and faces but there are a number of young people
who come to the training sessions with their parents, always exploring the
edges of the pond, the tall grass prairie wildlife and even catching
grasshoppers and salamanders and bunnies to bring home. The kids can do the
playing while the parents are working their dogs.

Our grandkids come
out as well and work Lacy and Rigby, then help plant birds on the golf cart, check
out the spider webs in the grass, pull wild flowers and get to enjoy the
company of other little people. It is
a perfect opportunity to show my grandkids and the other little people the
small wonders of nature. What dog training
and raising kids can do is teach you patience, inquisitiveness, and looking
at things from the eyes of the child. That is what dog
training is all about as well; look at the training process through the eyes
of your pup. What do they see, what are they picking up from your actions,
make the right things easy and the wrong things difficult for them to do.
Take the time to introduce your kids to the hunting world and you will be
rewarded many times over.
